Fees, Rebates & Referrals

Seeing a Psychologist for the first time might feel like a difficult thing to organise. At Inspire Mindful Psychology, we want to make that first appointment process as easy and stress-free for you as we can.

We have a simple fee structure (please see below) in line with the APS’s recommended fees, and we offer a range of rebates depending on what sort of referral you have, whether you are eligible for rebate and which Psychologist you choose to see.

If you do not wish to visit your GP to obtain a referral or are not eligible under Medicare, you are welcome to make an appointment to see one of our Psychologists by simply contacting us directly.

Please click on the headings below to read more about our fees, rebates available and what referrals we accept.

Our fees are set in accordance with Australia Psychological Society’s recommended consultation rates.

  • Clinical Psychologist = $300 per session (45 – 60 minutes)
Medicare Flat Rebate per session = $137.05***
  • Generally Registered Psychologist = $220 per session (45 – 60 minutes)
Medicare Flat Rebate per session = $93.35***
  • Provisionally Registered Psychologist = $120 per session (45 – 60 minutes)
    No Medicare Rebate

*** If you have crossed Medicare Safety Net within a calendar year, your rebate would be higher at approximately 80% of the total fee paid.

Medicare benefits are available for a range of specified psychological services for people with certain conditions, including:

  • People who experience marked emotional and/or cognitive distress, therefore considered to be experiencing psychological difficulties or their mental health issues or psychological disorders
  • Children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder aged under 13 years for a diagnostic , clinical & neuropsychological assessment and under 15 years for treatment
  • Children with a disability including sight impairment, hearing impairment, Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and Fragile X syndrome aged under 13 years for a diagnostic , clinical & neuropsychological assessment and under 15 years for treatment
  • Women who are concerned about either a current pregnancy, or one that occurred in the previous 12 months
  • People who have a chronic medical condition and complex care needs
  • Follow-up allied health services for people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

To be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, a person must be referred by their GP, or in some instances by a Psychiatrist, Paediatrician or Consultant Physician.

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan Referral from your GP under the Medicare Better Access Initiative, you can access up to 10 individual and 10 group treatment session rebates per year.

Medicare’s rebates for a standard consultation under the Better Access Initiative (as of July 1, 2021) are as follows:

Clinical Psychologist = $137.05 rebated back to you per standard session
Generally Registered Psychologist = $93.35 rebated back to you per standard session
Provisionally Registered Psychologist = nil

If you are using your Private Health Insurance to access rebates from your sessions, you do not need a referral from a GP and can simply give us a call or book in through our website (* include link here to contact us page and book online).

Each health fund offers many different levels of cover and you will need to check with your own personal health fund to see if your cover includes psychology services and any rebates you are entitled to.

If you wish to use your Private Health towards your Psychology sessions with us here at Inspire Mindful Psychology, we are able to provide you with an invoice and receipt for you to submit to your Health Fund and claim your rebates direct with them. Unfortunately we do not offer on-the-spot HICAPS rebates. Some Health Insurances however are part of our system and we are therefore able to charge them directly for your services. Please check this with our Practice Administrator.

Please note; you cannot use your private health insurance ancillary cover to top up the Medicare rebates. You need to decide if you will either use Medicare (if eligible) or your private health insurance for any psychological services you receive.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing support for Australian Citizens and Residents with disability, their families and carers. Accessing psychological therapy and counselling as well as neuropsychological assessment through the NDIS will ensure that you receive the support that is best tailored for your needs, whilst the quality of the service isn’t compromised.

Inspire Mindful Psychology offers psychological counselling and other psychology services for NDIS participants with a current plan in line with the NDIS Schedule of Fees for Psychology. You are welcome to email a copy of your plan to us so that we can better understand your support levels and needs.

If you do not yet have an NDIS plan, make contact with NDIS as soon as possible to see if you are eligible for support – www.ndis.gov.au/applying-access-ndis/am-i-eligible

Inspire Mindful Psychology has a number of Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists that provide support in regards to treatments paid by Insurance for the Adjustment to Injury and/or Return to Work issues.

We are, most of the time, able to directly invoice these third parties, ensuring there are no out-of-pocket costs for you. In order to do this we need you to provide us with confirmation that your claim has been approved, and also inclusive of Psychological Services prior to your initial session.

In the case that you do not have a claim approved for the work-related injury, but you wish to make a claim under QLD Q-Comp, your GP is the first point of contact. They would be able to help you to lodge a claim and can make a referral for you to see a Psychologist or other health and rehabilitation services to aid you in your recovery. To make the Adjustment to Injury Counselling available for you, your Doctor would need to recommend it in writing on your Medical Capacity Certificate and send a copy to both your Insurer and also provide one for our records.

Until your Claim is approved, you would need to pay for the appointment yourself, and then claim the fee back from your insurer.
