Dr Merima Isakovic, Inspire mindful psychology, Psychology Gold Coast, Neuropsychologist, Mental Health

Professional Clinical Supervision commonly involves work and professional debriefing within the same professional field and discipline, providing a skilled, collegial, reflective, non-judgmental, helpful and confidential support. The experienced Clinician/ Supervisor and the experienced or less experienced Colleague/Supervisee would work through ongoing goal-consistent and fluent overseeing, reviewing and enhancing of the profession-specific skills of the Supervisee, addressing safety issues and ethical performance of a Supervisee, in order to ensure safe and optimal care, and positively empowering treatment process for both, the Client and the Supervisee, as well as the best outcome for each Client.

The Psychology Board of Australia is committed to protecting the public by ensuring that the practicing clinicians are only those practitioners who are suitably trained and fully qualified to practice in a competent and ethical manner and who therefore have been fully registered in the specific area of Psychology practice. The Board requires all training programs leading to registration and endorsement of registration to be supervised by Board-approved Supervisors. Board-approved Clinical Supervisors are experienced Clinical Psychologists who have undertaken Board-approved training in competency-based clinical supervision.

The Board Approved Clinical Supervisors can therefore supervise experienced and fully registered colleagues as well as the psychologists who have been undergoing specific professional training process while working towards general registration or area of practice endorsement. Clinical Supervision has been aimed to help to achieve as well as maintain the desired quality of qualified knowledge and research based clinical practice by facilitating growth and assessing the required competencies in the Supervisee.
